The Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Saidu Yahaya, has resigned from office, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appointing the Commission’s Legal Secretary, Barrister Hafsat Ada’u Kutama, as acting Chairperson.
Yahaya reportedly submitted his resignation letter to the Secretary to the Kano State Government (SSG) on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
According to reports by online newspapers in the state, a source confirmed that the PCACC Chairman had resigned and formally communicated his decision to the SSG.
“The PCACC Chairman, Sa’idu Yahaya, resigned his appointment on Tuesday and has submitted the resignation letter to the SSG,” the source was quoted as saying.
The resignation reportedly came amid growing concerns within the Kano State Government over Yahaya’s performance and alleged failure to meet expectations in the discharge of his responsibilities as head of the state’s anti-corruption agency.
Governor Yusuf had recently criticized the commission’s leadership, expressing dissatisfaction with what he described as non-performance at the agency.
The circumstances surrounding Yahaya’s resignation were not immediately made public, and there was no detailed official statement from the state government or the former Chairman explaining the reasons for his decision.
Meanwhile, Governor Yusuf has moved to ensure continuity in the leadership of the Commission by appointing Kutama Esq. as Acting Chairperson.
The Governor’s Special Adviser on Social Media, Ibrahim Adam, announced the appointment on his verified social media handle on Wednesday.
“His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has appointed Barr Hafsat Ada’u Kutama as the acting chairperson of the Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC), Kano State,” Adam posted.
In the post, he explained that Kutama had previously served as the Legal Secretary of the commission before she was appointed acting chairperson.
Yahaya was appointed Chairman of the PCACC in August 2025 following the expiration of the tenure of the commission’s former chairman, Muhuyi Rimin Gado.
His appointment was subsequently confirmed by the Kano State House of Assembly for a five-year tenure.
The PCACC is responsible for receiving and investigating public complaints and allegations relating to corruption, abuse of office and other forms of misconduct within the Kano State public sector.
Kutama’s appointment is expected to provide interim leadership for the commission pending further decisions by the state government on its substantive leadership.
