The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Adamu Musa, for allegedly impersonating a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) and defrauding members of the public with promises of securing police recruitment slots, transfers, and postings.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, Musa, of Kureken Sani Quarters, Kano, was arrested on 1 September 2026, following a distress report received from 52 Police Mobile Force (PMF), Challawa.
The Command said operatives of the Panshekara Police Division acted on credible intelligence to apprehend the suspect, who allegedly posed as a senior police officer with influence over recruitment and postings.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Musa allegedly used edited photographs and AI-generated images of himself alongside senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force to convince unsuspecting victims that he had connections within the force.
The suspect allegedly used the images and names of senior officers to solicit money from victims in exchange for purported recruitment slots and transfers.
A search of his residence led to the recovery of a black jacket uniform, two pairs of black shoes, a camouflage uniform, a blue police uniform top, and N300,000 cash.
The suspect remains in police custody and will be charged to court after the completion of investigations.
The Police Command warned residents against falling victim to impersonators who exploit photo-editing and AI technology to create fake images with senior police officers.
It reiterated that recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is free and urged members of the public to verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a police officer, particularly those soliciting money for recruitment, transfer or posting.
The Command also urged residents to report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through its emergency lines: 08032419754, 08123821575 and 09029292926.
The police said it remained committed to protecting lives and property and ensuring that those who abuse the image and uniform of the force are brought to justice.
