The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Saturday publish the personal particulars of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, and other candidates contesting the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections.
The publication is in line with the Commission’s revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election and forms part of the legal process preceding the polls.
Besides the presidential candidates, INEC will also display the credentials and nomination details of candidates seeking election into the Senate and House of Representatives across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Tinubu is the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Atiku is contesting on the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), while Obi is flying the flag of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
INEC said the publication is a statutory requirement designed to promote transparency and enable Nigerians to scrutinise the information submitted by candidates before the elections.
The Commission cited Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act, 2026, which mandates it to publish the personal particulars of candidates within 21 days of receiving them in the constituencies where they intend to contest.
The Electoral Act also grants members of the public the right to obtain certified true copies of nomination forms, affidavits, and other documents submitted by candidates.
Under Section 29(4) of the Act, any interested person may apply to INEC for certified copies of a candidate’s nomination documents upon payment of the prescribed fee, and the Commission is required to provide the documents within 14 days.
The law further provides that any aspirant who participated in a political party’s primary election and has reasonable grounds to believe that a candidate submitted false information regarding constitutional qualifications may challenge the nomination at the Federal High Court.
The publication comes after political parties concluded their primaries and submitted the names and credentials of their candidates to the electoral body.
According to INEC’s revised election timetable, campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections will commence on August 19, 2026, while campaigns for governorship and State House of Assembly elections will begin later in line with the Commission’s schedule.
