The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Jigawa State Command, has provided financial assistance and relief materials to 20 widows as part of activities marking the 2026 International Widows’ Day.
The humanitarian outreach, held on Tuesday, was organized in line with the directives of the National President of POWA, Chief Mrs. Mutiat Olufunmilola Disu, and aimed at promoting compassion, inclusion and social welfare among vulnerable members of the police community.
Speaking at the event, the Chairperson of POWA, Jigawa State Command, represented by the association’s Secretary, Hajiya Fatimah Ibrahim, said the occasion underscored the importance of supporting widows who continue to shoulder family responsibilities despite facing various socio-economic challenges.
She noted that International Widows’ Day serves as a reminder of society’s collective obligation to extend care, empathy and practical assistance to women who have lost their spouses.
As part of the outreach program, the beneficiaries received food items, including spaghetti, groundnut oil and seasoning cubes, as well as cash support of N30,000 each to help meet their immediate needs.
The widows expressed gratitude to the association for the gesture, describing the support as timely and impactful. They also offered prayers for the continued success of POWA and its humanitarian initiatives.
The Jigawa State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to programs that promote social welfare, community engagement and humanitarian services, while calling on individuals, organizations and well-meaning Nigerians to continue supporting widows and other vulnerable groups in society.
The event was conducted in a warm and dignified atmosphere, reflecting POWA’s commitment to improving the welfare of widows and strengthening social support systems within the police community.
