The National Welfare Officer of the Superbike Club Association of Nigeria, Salisu Abubakar Tangland, popularly known as Buzzy Pele, testified on Thursday against Bashir Sanusi, a driver of an Iveco trailer, who allegedly crushed him and his sports motorcycle valued at N15.5 million.
The driver was arraigned before the court on charges of negligence and reckless driving.
In his testimony as Prosecution Witness Number 1 (PW1), Tangland said he came to know the defendant after recovering in the hospital.
He recalled that on 14 February 2026, while returning from Jos on his motorcycle, he encountered traffic at Tamburawa Bridge.
As he stopped and waited for the traffic to clear, the defendant recklessly drove an Iveco trailer, hitting him and his motorcycle, dragging him along the surface for several meters.
Tangland continued that after he managed to detach himself from the bike, the driver crushed the motorcycle.
“The driver fled to an unknown location and abandoned the vehicle for his own safety. After the incident, passersby called operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, and we were taken to Kura Police Division.
“The owner of the trailer sent a representative, who settled with other vehicle owners affected by the incident. As for me, the representative said the owner would pay N500,000, but I refused.
He later said his limit was N3 million. When the settlement failed, the police brought the case to court for redress,” the complainant testified.
Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Barrister Usman Abdullahi, informed the court that he had two witnesses the complainant and the IPO.
The counsel, through the witness, tendered a receipt showing the motorcycle’s value of N15.5 million.
The presiding Chief Magistrate, Hadiza Muhammad Hassan, ordered the defense counsel present in court to collect the record of the day’s proceedings to prepare for cross-examination at the next adjourned date, scheduled for 11 June 2016.
