The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that all 22 registered political parties in Nigeria have successfully submitted their membership registers in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 ahead of the 2027 General Election.

INEC disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, noting that the submissions were completed on or before May 8, 2026, two days ahead of the extended deadline granted by the Commission.

According to the electoral body, political parties had earlier requested an extension of time during a meeting held on March 24, 2026, citing the need to align the submission process with the schedule for their party primaries.

The Commission subsequently shifted the deadline from April 21, 2026, to May 10, 2026, through a statement released on March 27, 2026.

INEC explained that the adjustment was in line with Section 77(4) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates political parties to submit their membership registers not later than 21 days before the conduct of their primaries.

The Commission also reiterated that political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between 23 April and 30 May 2026, in accordance with the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election.

INEC stated that the submitted registers would now undergo verification processes as required by law.

The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring free, fair, credible, and inclusive elections across the country.
