The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially updated its portal to recognise Hakeem Baba-Ahmed as the National Chairman of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), following the party’s national convention held in Abuja on 28 March 2026.

The update reflects the emergence of a new leadership for the party, with key officials elected during the convention now formally captured in INEC’s records.

In a statement issued on Friday, the PRP National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, confirmed that Kanu Sunday Uchenna has been listed as National Secretary, while Dr. Bayawo Yunusa Abdullahi emerged as National Treasurer.

Mr. Chuka Patrick was recognised as National Financial Secretary, with Barrister Vincent Danladi Okudu named National Legal Adviser.

The convention also produced other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), including Mallam Buhari Haruna as Deputy National Chairman (North), Comrade Muhammed Bello Ishaq as National Publicity Secretary, Haruna Nanven as National Organising Secretary, and Mallam Musa Buba as National Auditor.

At the zonal level, Abubakar Hamanjoda (North East), Abba Namatazu (North West), Ifeanyi Peter Okafor (South East), and Olajide Wolimoh (South West) were elected as National Vice Chairmen, while Ozu Important Fredrick emerged as National Youth Leader.

However, the emergence of the new leadership has sparked controversy within the party.

A group identifying itself as the “PRP-Vanguard Collective,” led by Abdulmajid Yakubu Daudu, rejected the outcome of the convention, describing the process as a “sham” and alleging an attempt to hijack the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group also questioned the legitimacy of Baba-Ahmed, claiming he was not originally a member of the party and accusing the new leadership of aligning with external political interests.

But the PRP’s national leadership has dismissed the allegations, insisting there is no faction within the party.

It described the dissenting group as unknown elements seeking to destabilize the party, while reaffirming its unity.

Party officials further maintained that INEC’s update of its portal serves as formal recognition of the newly elected leadership, urging members to remain focused ahead of future political engagements.
