The Kano State Police Command has commenced activities to mark the 2026 National Police Day, with a focus on strengthening community relations under the theme, “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
The Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, in a statement on Monday, said the Commissioner of Police has called on stakeholders, community leaders, and the general public to actively participate in the events as part of efforts to build a safer and more secure society.
CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led the kickoff events, which began with a sanitation exercise and a town hall meeting at Fagge Quarters in Kano. This was followed by a medical outreach program at Dakata Quarters, aimed at providing essential healthcare services to residents.
The outreach featured free medical consultations, laboratory tests, counseling, and distribution of medications. Health experts also delivered lectures on key issues, including high blood pressure, drug abuse, general body care, dental hygiene, and the risks associated with self-medication.
In a related event, the Chairperson of the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), Hadiza Abubakar Bakori, led a tree-planting exercise at the Bompai Police Headquarters, highlighting the importance of environmental sustainability. She also encouraged women to take advantage of the medical outreach to prioritise their health.
The Command has outlined a series of activities to further engage the public, including a walkathon, a live radio program on Dala FM Kano, interactive sessions with students and staff of North-West University, a football march, and a roundtable discussion with civil society organisations and community liaison officers.
The celebrations will culminate on April 7, 2026, with a grand finale at the Eagle Square Parade Ground in Abuja.
