The Northern State Governors Forum (NSGF) has resolved to sustain its engagement with the Presidential Implementation Committee on Technology Transfer to facilitate the establishment of the New Nigeria Energy Company (NNEC) under the Sun Africa project, aimed at boosting renewable energy supply across the region.

This is contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the forum’s meeting held at the Gombe State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.

The communiqué was read by the forum’s Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, and was signed on Monday by Bologi Ibrahim, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor of Niger State.

According to the forum, the initiative is expected to enhance energy access and promote sustainable development in northern Nigeria through the deployment of renewable energy solutions.

The meeting was attended by several governors, including the Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago.

In a move to strengthen the economic base of the region, the NSGF also agreed to engage consultants to explore strategies for improving internally generated revenue (IGR), with a focus on identifying and harnessing untapped taxable sources.

The forum further resolved to support the digitalisation of its secretariat as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and productivity.

On security, the governors reiterated their commitment to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in addressing the evolving security challenges across the country.

They emphasized the need for sustained collaboration with security agencies to ensure lasting peace and stability in the northern region and beyond.

The forum also called on Nigerians to rally behind the President and security agencies in the collective effort to achieve a safer nation.
