The Kano State Fire Service has confirmed that a fire outbreak destroyed parts of residential buildings in Gaida, near Fatima Bread Bakery, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano, razing three houses and an electrical transformer site.

According to a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the incident occurred on Tuesday at about 11:05 a.m., when the Emergency Response Unit received a distress call from a resident, Aminu Bello, reporting a fire at Gaida, near Fatima Bread.

Firefighters from the Service’s Headquarters, Sharada Fire Station, and Rijiyar Zaki Fire Station were immediately deployed to the scene.

On arrival, responders found an open space measuring approximately 50 by 50 feet, used as an electrical transformer site, engulfed in flames.

The fire quickly spread to nearby structures, affecting three residential buildings.

The first building, a ground-floor structure measuring about 30 by 25 feet and used as a dwelling with a room, parlour, and toilet, was severely damaged.

The second, a one-storey building measuring approximately 30 by 30 feet, had its upper floor, comprising a bedroom, kitchen, and toilet, completely burnt.

The third building, also a ground-floor structure of about 30 by 30 feet with two rooms and a toilet, was similarly gutted by the fire.

Preliminary findings indicate that an electrical spark caused the incident.

Director of the Fire Service, Sani Anas, urged residents to take preventive measures against fire outbreaks, stressing the need to avoid open flames in residential areas and ensure the proper handling of electrical appliances.

No casualties were reported as of the time of filing this report.
