Kano State Government has dismissed allegations by Buba Galadima against Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kano, describing them as false, malicious and politically motivated.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing on Friday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, said the state government took strong exception to comments made by Galadima in a recent interview where he allegedly accused the governor and the DSS of suppressing opposition voices in the state.

Comrade Waiya said the allegations were “reckless and unfounded,” insisting that the administration of Governor Yusuf remains committed to protecting fundamental rights, including freedom of expression as guaranteed under the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The claims are outright false and politically contrived.

“They are nothing more than a desperate attempt to malign the integrity of the governor and sow discord within Kano State,” Comrade Waiya said.

He noted that similar accusations surfaced shortly after Governor Yusuf defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), adding that Galadima’s recent remarks followed his removal as Chairman of the Board of Kano State Polytechnic.

According to him, the removal was based strictly on administrative grounds relating to performance and competence.

Comrade Waiya alleged that the former board chairman’s comments were driven by personal grievance rather than genuine concern for democracy or civil liberties.

The government also rejected suggestions that it had directed security agencies to harass or intimidate political opponents, describing such insinuations as misleading.

Comrade Waiya maintained that security agencies, including the DSS, operate within their constitutional mandates and act only on credible complaints and lawful procedures.

“Any suggestion that the Kano State Government controls or manipulates federal security institutions is incorrect and deliberately deceptive,” he said.

While reaffirming the administration’s openness to constructive criticism and democratic engagement, the commissioner warned against the spread of misinformation capable of undermining public peace.

He stressed that freedom of expression does not extend to defamation, incitement or deliberate falsehood, adding that no responsible government would ignore actions capable of threatening public order.

Comrade Waiya further stated that opposition figures continue to operate freely in the state and that civic engagement and media activities remain unhindered, contrary to what he described as an alarmist narrative.

The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law and peaceful coexistence, pledging continued support for security agencies in maintaining law and order while protecting the rights and dignity of residents.
