Police Arrest Suspected Car Snatcher

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a car-snatching suspect in Uyo and recovered a stolen vehicle with registration number DKA-337 CB.

Command Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Timfon John, revealed this in a statement on Thursday.

‎According to him, ‎the suspect was arrested on January 20, 2026, following a distressed call at about 11.30 pm from a bolt driver whom the suspect robbed of his Toyota Corolla at gunpoint.

‎“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that the suspects had fled with the vehicle. However, through prompt intelligence gathering, operatives traced the stolen vehicle to Nkwot Ikono village, Etim Ekpo Local Government Area of the state.

‎“Consequently, one Sunday Okon (male) of Nna Enin village, Uruan Local Government Area, was arrested in possession of the stolen Toyota Corolla, with registration number DKA-337 CB. The suspect confessed to committing the crime during a preliminary interrogation,” DSP John stated.

‎The suspect, the PPRO stated, is currently in Police custody, while a “discreet and intensive” investigation is ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal gang with a view to recovering their operational weapons.

‎The state’s Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, commended the swift response and professionalism of the operatives, and reassured residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating violent crimes and ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
