Kano State Government has completed all preparations to begin the second round of the SARMAAN II Mass Drug Administration (MDA) to protect children from dangerous diseases.
The exercise will take place from Saturday through to Tuesday, 4th February 2026.
It is organized by the Federal Government of Nigeria, in partnership with the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Kano State Ministry of Health, under the leadership of the Honourable Commissioner, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.
The program will provide free Azithromycin Oral Suspension to children aged 1 to 59 months. This medicine helps protect children from serious illnesses such as diarrhoea, pneumonia, and skin infections.
During the exercise, trained health workers will go from house to house in 28 selected Local Government Areas (LGAs) to give the medicine to eligible children.
The state government has assured residents that all 44 LGAs will benefit from the programme in future rounds.
The LGAs included in this round are: Ajingi, Albasu, Bebeji, Bichi, Bunkure, Dala, Dawakin Tofa, Gabasawa, Garun Mallam, Gaya, Kabo, Kano Municipal, Karaye, Kiru, Ghari, Kura, Madobi, Minjibir, Rimin Gado, Rogo, Shanono, Takai, Tarauni, Tofa, Tudun Wada, Ungogo, Warawa, and Wudil.
Parents and caregivers are informed that Azithromycin is safe. Some children may experience mild diarrhoea or vomiting, but this will go away quickly.
The medicine is completely free, and anyone who asks for money should be reported to the nearest Primary Health Care facility.
The Kano State Government encourages all parents and guardians to support the programme and allow their children to receive the medicine, in order to protect their health and save lives.
