Two Jailed 2 Months For Stealing Cellphone From Mosque

A Wuse Magistrates’ Court in Abuja, sentenced two brothers, Adamu and Rabiu Ibrahim to two months imprisonment each for stealing a cellphone in a mosque.

The Magistrate, Olumide Bamisile convicted and sentenced them with an option of N30,000 fine each.

He however warned the convicts to desist from committing crime and be of good behaviour.

The police charged the brothers with joint act and theft which they pleaded guilty to.

Earlier, the prosecuting counsel, Donatus Abah told the court that the complainant, Yusuf Aliyu reported the matter to the FCT Police Commissioner on Jan.2.

Abah said that the complainant went to Annur Mosque in Maitama, Abuja to pray and while praying, Adamu and Rabiu jointly stole his Galaxy Fold 4 from his pocket.

The offence, he said contravened the provisions of sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.

The prosecution added that during police investigations, the cellphone was recovered from Adamu and Rabiu and returned to the owner.

Following their guilty plea, the convicts told the court that they intended to sell the cellphone before they were caught.

They however prayed for leniency and begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
