Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has called on social media influencers, particularly supporters of the present administration, to ensure that their content creation remains responsible, respectful, and dignified to promote unity and development among Nigerians.
According to a statement on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Saturday.
The statement disclosed that Governor Yusuf made the call during the Motorcycle Empowerment Programme for social media influencers drawn from the 44 Local Government Areas of the state, held at the Government House, Kano, on Saturday.
The governor was quoted as saying:
“I call on you to exercise responsibility, respect and dignity in your content creation. Freedom of expression must be guided by ethics, decency and respect for others.”
“Let us use social media as a force for unity, enlightenment, development and positive change, not as a tool for abuse, hatred or division. I also urge you to always put Kano first in all your content,” he added.
Governor Yusuf noted that in the digital age, social media has become a powerful platform for information sharing, advocacy, creativity and economic engagement.
He explained that the empowerment programme was designed to promote youth empowerment, economic inclusion and sustainable development across Kano State.
“We strongly believe that empowering our people, especially women and youths, is the surest pathway to reducing poverty, unemployment and social vices,” the governor said.
Governor Yusuf further appealed to the influencers to project the manifesto of the present administration, particularly its commitment to sustaining peace and promoting economic growth through collaboration with other states and the Federal Government.
At the event, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibril Falgore, former Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, and the Chairman of Nassarawa Local Government Council, Yusuf Imam, all called for peaceful coexistence among the citizens.
