Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has on Wednesday pledged to consolidate the gains of 2025 with renewed emphasis on security, infrastructure, education and economic empowerment as the state enters 2026.

In his New Year message to residents and Nigerians, the governor said his administration would intensify efforts to accelerate socio economic development in line with its nine point Smart Innovative Agenda.

Aliyu reaffirmed his commitment to supporting security agencies to curb banditry, particularly in the 13 local government areas affected by insecurity, disclosing that a comprehensive blueprint had been developed to improve logistics, intelligence gathering and inter-agency collaboration.

He urged security operatives to scale up operations in the new year and appealed to residents, especially in vulnerable communities, to provide timely and credible information on suspicious activities, stressing the importance of community based surveillance in rural areas.

On education and religious development, the governor announced plans to construct new Islamiyya schools and rehabilitate dilapidated ones, while assuring that ongoing renovations of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions would be completed, with improved furniture supply and enhanced teachers’ welfare.

Aliyu also said ongoing housing projects in Wajake, Gidan Salanke and Sokoto New City, as well as rural and township road projects, would be completed before the end of the second quarter of 2026.

He reiterated his administration’s resolve to sustain economic empowerment programmes, including NG-CARES, Ahmadu-CARES and other youth- and women-focused initiatives aimed at reducing poverty and expanding livelihoods across the state.
