The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Jigawa State Chapter, has elected new executive members to preside over its affairs for the next three years.

The election of the new state executive was conducted during the NUT Jigawa State Chapter’s 8th Triennial Delegates Conference, held in the capital, Dutse.

Speaking during the opening session of the conference, the National President of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Comrade Titus Audi Amba, said the union was built upon democratic tenets and labour union philosophy.

According to him, in line with this, the union at the national, state, and local levels conducts elections to usher in new executives at the end of every stipulated tenure. Consequently, the election for the new executive members of the Jigawa State wing was due to be held this December.

Comrade Amba reiterated the union’s commitment to continue pursuing better welfare and improved conditions for teaching and learning in Nigeria.

In his speech, the outgoing NUT Chairman, Comrade Abdulkadir Yunusa, said the union had worked tirelessly with the state government to reposition teaching and learning.

“I urge the incoming executive to learn from our successes and, where we had gaps, to strategize for more progress,” he said.
