The One Kano Agenda, in collaboration with Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), has convened a two-day conference focused on the development of Kano State.
The conference, which commenced on Wednesday, is currently underway at the KHAIRUN campus.
It attracted participants from academia, the business community, political circles, and other sectors of society.
Speaking at the event, the Director General of the One Kano Agenda, Amb. Abbas Yakassai, said the conference is aimed at renewing Kano State’s economic and political pathways through collective cooperation to achieve a shared objective.
According to him, the One Kano Agenda seeks to reposition Kano’s political and economic landscape to ensure stability, foster unity, and improve the quality of life of residents.
“Ensuring a stable political environment will promote peace and strengthen democracy. Our goal is to build a Kano where people are not divided along political affiliations,” Yakassai said.
He stressed the need to eliminate unhealthy political rivalry, noting that unity remains key to sustainable development.
“At the end of the day, we are all one. I urge the youth to always put Kano first in all they do,” he added.
While formally declaring the conference open, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, called on residents to embrace unity despite differences.
“The time has come for Kano to stand united against all odds. We have a governor who listens to the yearnings of the people, and we must work collectively with him to achieve a developed and peaceful state,” Waiya said.
He highlighted ongoing developmental projects across the state as evidence of the administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, urging stakeholders to support the objectives of the One Kano Agenda.
The commissioner also commended the state government for blocking financial leakages, noting that the current administration has strengthened accountability and transparency.
In his remarks, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Faruk, praised the founders of the One Kano Agenda for their foresight and dedication to the state’s progress.
He said Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has expressed his support for the initiative, describing it as aligned with the overall interest of Kano State.
Faruk also expressed concern over rising drug abuse among youths, urging them to prioritize education and positive engagement.
“The One Kano Agenda provides a platform for numerous opportunities, and with collective effort, we can move Kano State to the next level,” he stated.
