The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says 1,906,390 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), representing 81.50 per cent of registered voters in Osun State, have been collected ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
According to him, Osun has a total of 2,339,233 registered voters, leaving 426,842 uncollected PVCs, representing 18.50 per cent.
Haruna said the uncollected cards had been safely deposited with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), in line with the commission’s established procedure.
He added that some voters whose PVCs were damaged, defaced or lost had applied for replacement, while 6,101 applicants printed downloadable copies of their PVCs.
INEC said it had also published a polling-unit-by-polling-unit breakdown of the collected PVCs on its official website.
The electoral body reassured political parties, civil society organisations, the media and residents of Osun State of its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible, transparent and inclusive election on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
Police Step Up Security
With the election just two days away, security preparations have also intensified across the state.
The Nigeria Police Force is deploying thousands of personnel across Osun’s 30 Local Government Areas as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible poll.
Police sources and official statements indicate that at least four officers will be deployed to each of the state’s 3,673 polling units.
The figure does not include personnel from other security and law enforcement agencies expected to support the electoral process.
The heightened security deployment comes as political parties and voters make final preparations for the closely watched governorship election.
