The Sokoto State Executive Council has approved on Thursday the presentation of the 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, signaling a major stride in Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s efforts to fast-track development and strengthen governance across the state.

At Thursday’s meeting held in the council chamber, the council also gave the green light for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the fire ravaged sections of the Sokoto Central Market, approving ₦8,499,855,347.12 for the project. The reconstruction described as one of the state’s biggest commercial recovery interventions will be handled by 38 indigenous contractors, each receiving a 50 percent mobilization fee, with a three month completion timeline.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu commended the council’s unwavering support toward advancing government policies and programmes, emphasizing that unity, teamwork and commitment remain central to achieving his administration’s development blueprint. He noted that rebuilding the market will revive commercial activities, restore livelihoods and modernize essential infrastructure in the state capital.

In another decisive move, the council approved ₦469,140,662.38 for the construction of a new administrative block and rehabilitation of existing structures at the Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency (PWA). The project is expected to be completed within six months.

Governor Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to provide the resources and institutional backing required for effective service delivery, stressing that the progress recorded across key sectors reflects the collective dedication of council members and government officials.

With the approval granted for the transmission of the 2026 proposed budget, the state government is now poised to take the next critical step in shaping Sokoto’s fiscal direction for the year ahead.
