Musa Na Allah, Sokoto
The Sokoto State Executive Council has endorsed a far-reaching fiscal framework valued at N702.55 billion, setting the stage for a more disciplined and goal driven 2026 budget cycle.
Speaking after the council’s 15th session on Thursday, Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Dr. Abubakar Muhammad Zayyana, described the new Medium-Term Expenditure Framework as ambitious yet realistic.
He stated that the fiscal document was produced in strict adherence to Fiscal Responsibility Law No.13 of 2019, ensuring transparency, accountability and efficient deployment of public funds.
According to him, the framework is designed to strengthen financial discipline, eliminate leakages, enhance project delivery and stabilise budgeting over the next fiscal periods.
Zayyana further emphasized that the document aligns development priorities with spending capacity, offering a strategic roadmap for sustainable socio-economic growth.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruk Umar, announced council approval for massive rehabilitation and remodelling of six major hospitals across the state.
He revealed that the intervention represents the second phase of the government’s infrastructure overhaul in the health sector after renovation of nine facilities commenced earlier.
The benefitting hospitals include General Hospital Yabo (N290.14m), Illela (N382.40m), Bodinga (N189.25m), Sabon Birni (N272.29m), Tangaza (N291.31m) and Women & Children Hospital, Sokoto (N187.99m).
Umar added that the contracts cover civil, electrical and plumbing works, with completion expected within six months following 30% mobilisation to contractors.
He disclosed that the council also approved N100.062 million for procurement of HIV test kits and essential drugs to mitigate the impact of donor withdrawal on African countries.
Similarly, Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Sambo Bello Danchadi, announced approval of N72.60 million for laptops, desktops and tablets to be supplied by Kalsuri Investment Company Limited within three months.
He said another N113.15 million will fund printing and supply of textbooks and exercise books for public schools across the state.
Danchadi further confirmed approval for flood-control projects at Zaga Road, Gawon-Nama (N122.76m) and Orthopaedic General Hospital Road, Wamakko (N216.62m), all with strict completion timelines and no room for variation.
The new approvals stand among the most assertive fiscal commitments in recent years, signalling government readiness to accelerate infrastructure expansion, revamp critical sectors and fortify implementation capacity ahead of the 2026 budget formulation.
