The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has condemned the attack on the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, where gunmen killed the Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, and abducted several schoolgirls on Sunday night.

Following the incident, security operatives, including police tactical units, military personnel, and vigilante groups, have begun combing the surrounding forests in search of the kidnapped students.

In a statement on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, described the attack as tragic and lamented the rising insecurity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

He criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government for what he called its failure to protect lives and property, saying Nigerians have been left vulnerable to bandits and violent criminals.

The party commiserated with the family of the slain vice principal, the staff, and parents of the abducted schoolgirls, urging the President to act decisively rather than allow Nigeria’s security situation to deteriorate further.

“This tragic incident further highlights the alarming rise in insecurity that has become the lived reality of majority of Nigerians under the Tinubu-led APC administration, which has consistently preferred the politicization of governance over the protection of citizens,” the statement read.

According to the PDP, any government that fails in its primary duty to safeguard lives and property must take responsibility and address the issues head-on, rather than appearing aloof or deflecting from core security concerns.

The party also noted that similar abductions had occurred recently in Nasarawa, Plateau, Kano, and Katsina, insisting that the situation contradicts the promises made to Nigerians.

The PDP called on President Tinubu to urgently and adequately prioritise national security to end what it termed a “tragic cycle” of killings and kidnappings.

“Let the killings stop!” the statement concluded.
