The Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has reiterated the state government’s commitment to advancing nutrition, food security, and sustainable health interventions.

He made this known while leading the management team of the Ministry of Health to the Validation Workshop for the Kano State Tom Brown Business Case held in Kano.

The workshop was organized by the Kano State Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Drugs, Medical and Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) and development partners, including PVAC, FCDO, UNICEF, WHO, and the Global Fund (GF).

It brought together key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, as well as nutrition and public health experts.

In his address, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf commended the development partners for their continued support, describing the Tom Brown initiative as a vital step toward combating malnutrition, especially among women and children.

He emphasized that the state is committed to developing a sustainable model that will enhance local production, create employment opportunities, and improve community health and well-being.

The workshop’s key objectives included reviewing and validating the draft Tom Brown Business Case; gathering technical, operational, and policy inputs from stakeholders; defining roles and responsibilities for implementation; and building consensus on investment frameworks, production models, and a sustainability roadmap for the initiative.

Following the technical sessions, participants incorporated stakeholder feedback to refine both the financial and operational components of the Business Case.

The deliberations also reinforced government ownership and readiness for implementation, exploring options such as Public-Private Partnerships (PPP), co-financing mechanisms, and facility site selection.

According to the communiqué issued at the end of the workshop, participants highlighted the importance of strong collaboration between government and development partners to ensure the sustainability of the project.

They also agreed on the need to institutionalize monitoring and evaluation systems to track progress and uphold quality standards in production.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Health, pledged to implement the workshop’s recommendations.

Dr. Yusuf expressed confidence that the Tom Brown initiative will play a transformative role in improving nutrition outcomes, empowering local communities economically, and strengthening overall health development across the state.
