Determined to protect children from preventable but deadly diseases, the Sokoto State Government, in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has intensified efforts to promote vaccination against measles-rubella, polio, and other childhood killer diseases.

At a stakeholders’ mobilization meeting held on Friday in Sokoto, media practitioners, social media influencers, U-Reporters, healthcare professionals, and government officials gathered to deliberate on innovative ways of educating parents about the life-saving importance of routine immunization.

Health Promotion Officer, Sabi Shehu, who led the sensitization, stressed that vaccination remains the most effective weapon against the spread of these diseases.

He reminded parents that measles, rubella, and polio are not just common childhood illnesses but deadly conditions that can cause pneumonia, brain damage, paralysis, or even death.

“These vaccines are safe, effective, and critical for protecting our children.

“The upcoming vaccination campaign is as important as every other round of immunization. It is a chance for parents to safeguard their children’s future,” Shehu said.

The campaign, scheduled to commence in Bodinga Local Government Area on Sunday, will run simultaneously across all the 23 LGAs of Sokoto State.

According to officials, healthcare workers will be deployed to every corner of the state to ensure that no child is left behind.

The ambitious exercise targets over 2 million children from the age of 9 to 14 , a feat that health experts say will only be achieved through the full cooperation of parents, community leaders, and healthcare providers.

“Parents must take advantage of this opportunity.

“Every child vaccinated is a child protected. Together, we can break the cycle of these killer diseases and build a healthier generation,” Shehu urged.

Stakeholders at the meeting unanimously agreed that beyond government and UNICEF’s commitment, the success of the vaccination campaign depends on strong community participation and awareness.

For the Sokoto State Government, the initiative is not just a health program but a lifeline for children, ensuring they grow healthy, safe, and free from preventable diseases.

“By presenting their children for vaccination.

“Parents are not only protecting their families but also contributing to a stronger and healthier Sokoto,” Shehu concluded.

The partnership between the State Government and UNICEF signals a clear commitment: a healthier, more prosperous future for every child in Sokoto.
