The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has accused the Federal Government of applying “divide and rule” tactics among unions within the university system.

It warned that the development may truncate the already frigile peace within the system, especially as SSANU has gotten winds that the government is planning to renegotiate and shore up ASUU members salary by 100%.

Aside from SSANU, other unions spoiling for war with the government includes the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions, NASU and the National Association of Academic Technologists, NAAT.

President of SSANU and Chairman of Joint Action Committee, JAC (comprising SSANU and NASU), Comrade Mohammed Ibrahim gave the hint on Monday, revealing that the Federal Government has scheduled to meet with ASUU on August 28 separately.

He said probably owing to recent threats from ASUU to embark on strike over delays in renegotiating the 2009 FGN-ASUU agreement, a meeting has been scheduled where they will iron out plans for salary increment.

Other unions within the university system have been mounting pressures on the government to revisit the Yahaye Ahmed-led renegotiation agreement.

The aggrieved unions had in several occasions threatened to go on strike if government refused to accede to their demands.
