Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree prohibiting the purchase of foreign-made clothing and gear for the country’s armed forces from January 1, 2026.
Under the new directive, all military uniforms and related items must be produced by Russian companies with manufacturing facilities located within the country.
By 2027, the rule will also apply to fabrics and knitted materials used in production, which must be sourced domestically.
The measure, outlined in the decree, aims to fully eliminate the use of imported clothing and materials for the Russian military.
Items covered by the ban include uniforms, insignia, underwear, bedding, special clothing, footwear, equipment, and sanitary supplies, all of which are procured through the state defence order system.
