Six people were killed on Thursday when an air ambulance crashed into a residential area in Kiambu County, just outside Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

According to AMREF Flying Doctors, the Cessna Citation XLS jet had taken off from a Nairobi airport and was en route to Somaliland when it went down. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The organization said it is cooperating with aviation authorities and emergency teams to investigate the incident, promising to release further details later.

The Kenya Red Cross, which initially reported the downed aircraft as a helicopter, dispatched rescue teams to the scene. The Star newspaper reported a swift response from military and police personnel, who secured the crash site soon after the incident.

Government officials have yet to release additional information.
