Kano State Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting professional Public Relations practitioners and journalists, with plans underway to allocate land to the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Kano State Chapter, for the construction of its permanent secretariat.
The Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated this on Saturday while receiving members of the NIPR Kano State Chapter on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Government House.
The NIPR delegation had participated in the first World Public Relations Day Walk in Kano, which terminated at the Government House as part of activities marking the 2026 International Public Relations Day.
Briefing the Governor through the Director General, Fellow of the NIPR and former Council Member of the Institute, Prof. Sule Yau Sule, said the walk was organised as part of preparations for the International Public Relations Day celebration scheduled to take place in Abuja, Nigeria, in November 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the Governor, Dawakin Tofa said the Kano State Government had expended huge amounts of money in supporting the training, retraining and welfare of professional Public Relations practitioners and journalists in the state.
He said the government recognised the important role played by communication professionals in promoting effective communication, public understanding and responsible dissemination of information.
The Director General further disclosed that the state government had concluded arrangements for the allocation of land to the NIPR Kano State Chapter to enable it construct a permanent secretariat.
He said the initiative was part of the government’s efforts to strengthen professional institutions and provide them with the necessary support and facilities to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
Prof. Sule Yau Sule expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government for its continued support to the NIPR and other communication professionals, while highlighting the importance of the World Public Relations Day activities in promoting the profession.
The 2026 International Public Relations Day is expected to bring together Public Relations practitioners and stakeholders in Abuja in November, with activities aimed at advancing professional standards and highlighting the contribution of public relations to society.
