Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has dissolved the Benue State Executive Council, marking the end of tenure for all serving Commissioners.
Announcing the decision after the 12th Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday, the Governor also named Barr. Moses Atagher as the new Chief of Staff.
A two-time former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the state, Atagher is a seasoned administrator and also a former Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank.
His appointment takes immediate effect.
Governor Alia expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Commissioners for their dedication and service over the past two years.
He urged those who may not be reappointed to remain committed to the party and continue to engage with the government, noting that their departure presents an opportunity for others to contribute to the state’s development.
He clarified that the dissolution affects only the Commissioners, with the Chief of Staff position being the only immediate replacement that has been announced.
Speaking on behalf of the outgoing Executive Council members, Barr. Bemsen Mnyim thanked the Governor for the opportunity to serve.
“At every stage in life, every place you’re called to serve is a school. We’ve learned a lot while working with you,” he said.
All former Commissioners have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries of their respective ministries without delay.
