The Coalition of Civil Society on Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution has applauded the Jigawa State Investment Initiative for its N3.5 billion commercial shop project at the Farm Centre Market in Kano State, describing it as a forward-looking and economically sound venture.

The commendation was made on Friday during a press conference at the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Dutse.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, Comrade Muhammad Musbahu Basirka, said the group’s assessment of the project confirmed it as a sustainable effort aligned with Jigawa State’s revenue diversification agenda.

The 1,000-shop complex is being developed on land recovered from illegal occupants by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and returned to the Jigawa State Government.

According to Comrade Basirka, the completed project is projected to generate approximately ₦1 billion annually in rent revenue, funds that could support further development initiatives.

He stressed that the investment holds long-term economic benefits and should be recognized as a model for strategic public sector investment.

Comrade Basirka also condemned critics of the initiative, describing them as lacking a broader understanding of sustainable development.

“Governments invest at local, national, and international levels to increase revenue and drive economic growth. Jigawa State should not be left behind in exploring profitable opportunities wherever they exist,” he stated.
