The Bauchi State Teachers Service Commission has demoted the Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Kirfi, Malam Musa Ahmed, and a Senior Master, Malam Adamu Shehu, for gross misconduct.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Commission’s Information Officer, Malam Dahiru Adamu, the two officers were found guilty of selling school property without approval from the State Ministry of Education.
An investigative committee revealed that the duo illegally sold 32 scrapped student beds, nine jumbo aluminium pots, and roofing zinc. The committee’s findings were submitted by the overseeing Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Garba Bashe.
Following the report, the Commission approved their demotion by one grade level and ordered their transfer to different schools where they will serve as classroom teachers.
In addition, the two staff members are required to refund N597,000, the value of the items sold. The principal, Malam Musa Ahmed, was also directed to pay N72,000 owed to the school’s casual workers.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and pledged to work with security agencies to recover the stolen items.
