In a proactive move to avert recurring flood disasters and related threats from incessant rainfall, the Chairman of Malam Madori Local Government Area, Hon. Salisu Sani Garun-Gabas, has directed the Department of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene to begin immediate evacuation of waste from critical areas, including drainages and culverts.

Hon. Garun-Gabas said the intervention aims to prevent further flood-related destruction, citing the recent collapse of several houses in the area as a wake-up call.

The effort is to forestall the occurrence of flood disasters that happen almost yearly in the local government.

“Just recently, many houses collapsed due to the flooding,” he stated.

The Senior Special Adviser on New Media and Domestic Affairs to the Chairman, Abba Maigoro, confirmed that the cleanup operation will span all three districts of the LGA: Malam Madori, Waje, and Garun-Gabas.

Shehu Sani Gwadayi, Head of the Department of Water and Sanitation, noted that arrangements have been finalized for the evacuation and removal of waste materials blocking waterways.

In a related development, preparations are underway to construct river embankments at Tashena Ward. This measure aims to protect farmlands and communities from erosion and flooding.
