The Sultan of Sokoto and Chairman of the National Traditional Rulers Council of Nigeria, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has joined the nation in mourning the passing of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin.
In a condolence message issued on Monday in Sokoto, the Sultan expressed profound sorrow over the death of the revered monarch, describing him as “a remarkable leader and a good-hearted giant in both thought and action.”
The message, conveyed through an official statement signed by the Secretary to the Sultanate Council, Sai’idu Maccido, extended heartfelt sympathies to the government and people of Oyo State, the bereaved royal family, and the Olubadan-in-Council.
The Sultan paid glowing tribute to Oba Olakulehin’s dedication to peace, unity, and development in Ibadanland, highlighting his lifelong service to humanity.
“The passing of this great monarch leaves a void that will be felt across the land,” the Sultan stated.
He noted that although the late Olubadan’s reign was brief, it was distinguished by wisdom, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to his people.
“His leadership, even in a short time, brought honour to the throne and left a legacy that will endure in the hearts of many,” the statement read.
Praying for comfort for the royal family and the people of Ibadan, the Sultan said, “May Almighty God grant the family and the good people of Ibadanland the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Ameen.”
The Sultan’s tribute reflects the deep mutual respect and solidarity among Nigeria’s traditional rulers, underscoring the unity that transcends regional and ethnic boundaries within the country’s traditional institutions.
