On Tuesday, Kano State Government inaugurated a committee to regulate real estate operations and the activities of property agents across the state.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting, the Chairman of the Committee and Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, stated that the initiative was prompted by growing concerns over security and revenue generation challenges within the real estate and property development sector in the state.
He noted that real estate operations and development have continued to expand without any form of regulation, thereby creating room for unqualified individuals to participate in the business.
In response to this development, His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, approved the constitution of the committee to develop a regulatory framework to guide real estate activities, including property sales, leasing, and rentals.
The committee is tasked with developing a comprehensive database of real estate operators and establishing operational frameworks to regulate the industry effectively.
Additionally, the committee will obtain, study, and analyze real estate regulatory laws from other states, and formulate practical strategies to ensure compliance with standard procedures and global best practices in the sector.
Members of the committee include representatives from the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, Kano Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, and the Ministry of Justice.
Also included are the Chairmen of the Kano Property Agents and Development Association, the Plot and Foundation Housing Agents Association Kano, and the Kano Real Estate and Land Agents Development Association.
