Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has officially flagged off the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Complex.
Speaking at the event in Yola, the Adamawa State capital, Fintiri described the project as a testament to his administration’s vision for economic growth and development
“This project defines how we think as a government when it comes to development, progress, and prosperity in our dear state,” he said.
Emphasizing the administration’s priorities, the governor added, “For us, Adamawa State comes first. Our people are at the center of our decisions, and our oath of office dictates our direction. Once these conditions are met, we neither waver nor succumb to the distractions of political jobbers.”
Fintiri highlighted the significance of the shopping complex, describing it as a landmark initiative that extends beyond infrastructure development.
“The Jimeta Ultra-Modern Shopping Complex is not just about erecting a structure; it is about creating an enduring legacy—a vibrant commercial hub that will attract investments, foster economic growth, and generate employment for our youth and the general populace,” he stated.
He further explained that the project is a key component of his administration’s broader vision to modernize both urban and rural landscapes, promote sustainable growth, and provide economic opportunities for citizens.
“This project underscores our commitment to economic diversification, leveraging commerce, tourism, and technology to build a resilient economy that works for everyone,” he said.
Fintiri expressed confidence that, upon completion, the complex will be more than just a shopping mall. It will feature high-end retail outlets, food courts, office spaces, recreational areas, and other state-of-the-art facilities.
“This will attract investors and traders from within and outside the state, significantly boosting the local economy,” he noted.
He acknowledged that, to an uninformed observer, the project’s full impact might not be immediately evident.
However, he stressed that the complex would serve as a key driver of economic activity, attracting customers and visitors while creating job opportunities in construction, retail, security, management, and hospitality.
It will also provide a platform for small and medium-sized businesses to thrive, empowering local entrepreneurs and promoting economic inclusivity.
The governor called on all stakeholders—including contractors, local government officials, business leaders, and citizens—to work collectively toward the project’s successful completion.
The contract, valued at ₦19.7 billion, is scheduled for completion within 18 months. To ensure efficiency and timely delivery, the project has been divided into three lots, awarded to LUBELL Nig. Ltd (LOT 1), Madugu Commercial and Construction Company (LOT 2), and AMIJAPP Nig. Ltd (LOT 3). The technical consultancy will be handled by Mssr Associated Design Consultan
“We will closely monitor this project to ensure it is completed on time and meets world-class standards. This complex will stand as a beacon of excellence for generations to come,” Fintiri assured.
He urged traders and the broader commercial community in Adamawa to engage with the Ministry of Commerce and take ownership of the project rather than adopting a passive stance.
“Like every project initiated by this government, we do not embark on ventures we cannot complete. This is our trademark. This is the new Adamawa State, where no one is left behind and nothing is left untouched,” he declared.
Fintiri concluded by expressing optimism that, in the coming months, he would return to commission the completed shopping complex.
