Tems Delays The Release Of Her Music Video In The Face Of National Protest

Tems, the worldwide phenomenon from Nigeria, has postponed the debut of her next song video.

One of Nigeria’s most popular musical exports, Tems, has chosen to delay the premiere of her new song video as a show of support for the Nigerian people.

The Grammy-winning artist recently revealed that the release of her music video for the song “Burning” would be delayed in response to the countrywide demonstrations against poverty and poor leadership.

On August 1, 2024, Tems announced this on her X account. In the same post, she called for the people’s voices to be heard.

“I have chosen to defer the release of the Burning music video in observance of the current protest taking place at home. wishing for everyone’s safety who is outside at this time. May the voice of the people be heard,” the post reads.

Tems’ response to the demonstration is one of the responses from famous people and artists who supported the call for ethical leadership. On the #EndBadGovernaceInNigeria trending on X, Vector, Omah Lay, Adekunle Gold, Spyro, Mr. Macaroni, Iyabo Ojo, and Konstance all left comments.

The protests that began on August 1st are a response to the rising economic hardship and crisis of rising living expenses that have come with some of President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives.

Protesters in several states staged public demonstrations, asking that the government lower the expense of government reverse the PMS, and withdraw fuel subsidies.

Fans and onlookers have praised Tems for her decision to delay the premiere of her song video.

The singer didn’t announce a new date for the music video which is one of the songs off her recently released debut album ‘Born In The Wild,’ but it’s expected to be released after the protest.
