The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmad Aliyu, has approved free registration for indigent students seeking admission into tertiary institutions through the 2025/2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and Direct Entry.

In a statement issued on Friday, the state Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Isa Maishanu, confirmed the approval, noting that the initiative is in line with the governor’s nine-point agenda.

“To alleviate the financial burden on families, Governor Aliyu has also approved the payment of online registration fees for all eligible students.

“This noble gesture aims to support indigent students in securing admission to Nigerian universities and other tertiary institutions,” Maishanu said.

The distribution of JAMB/UTME and Direct Entry PINs will commence at the secretariats of all 23 local Government areas across the state. Interested candidates are required to visit their respective secretariats to collect and complete the necessary forms.

“The state Ministry for Higher Education will oversee the entire process to ensure a seamless operation.”

Additionally, the statement advised interested candidates to generate a Profile Code by texting “NIN” followed by their eleven-digit National Identification Number (NIN) to 55019.
