Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Kano Field Office, organized a four-day capacity-building training for the members of the state Instructional Leadership Team (ILTs) on the new method of teaching known as “Learning Lab” for improving learning outcome at the basic education level.
Speaking at the opening session of the training held in Dutse capital, Mr Haberb Saleh an education officer with UNICEF Kano Field Office, said the program is part of the 4 years project supported by the European Union (EU) for Improving Learning Outcome and Youth Empowerment in three states of northern Nigeria namely Jigawa, Sokoto, and Kano
He explained that the learning Lab represents an interactive physical and digital learning space that is highly immense and contractual within the School eco-system
“The learning Lab aims to bring together teachers Head teachers experts, Government, agencies, development partners, and all other stakeholders to develop school-based solutions to improve teaching and learning.
“This involved using available resources and mechanisms at every community, and school to achieve the desired goals, the mechanism has three components Access, Support, and Collaboration, (ASC).
“The new method in which we are training teachers and head teachers now will go a long way in tackling some the challenges in Jigawa state learning environment, thereby improving teaching and learning in the state and other sister states where such project is going on,” Saleh stated.
According to Haberb, the EU approved a €20 million grant to UNICEF for a 4-year program implementation starting from September 2023 to August 2027, under which 1.2 million learners, 5,000 teachers, 150 education officials, and 5,400 community members are targeted.
