In his address, the Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Umar Aliyu, highlighted the essential pillars of academic success as discipline, dedication, and adherence to university regulations.

He encouraged the freshers to embrace the values of the instructions so as to thrive in their academic journey.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Bashir Garba, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the education sector, as well as the contributions of the Sokoto, Kebbi, and Zamfara State governments and religious leaders in the geopolitical region.

He urged the new students to aim for excellence and uphold the university’s core values.

“Today marks the beginning of a journey that could shape your future,” said Professor Garba. “Stay focused, disciplined, and strive to make your parents, guardians, and this institution proud.”

Reflecting on UDUS’s rich history, Professor Garba reminisced about its evolution from the University of Sokoto to UDUS in 1988, establishing it as one of Nigeria’s seven oldest universities.

The VC underscored the importance of fully utilizing the university’s extensive academic resources, state-of-the-art libraries, research facilities, and dedicated faculty.

Beyond academics, he urged students to engage in extracurricular activities and community service for a balanced university experience.

“You are now part of a legacy of excellence,” Professor Garba concluded. “While the road ahead may not always be easy, you have the tools for success; use them wisely.”

With 17 faculties and a growing reputation, UDUS continues to solidify its position as one of Nigeria’s foremost institutions of higher learning.
