Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA have foiled a suspected bandit attack on military camps in Sabuwa and Faskari Local Government Areas of Katsina State and intercepted an unidentified surveillance drone believed to have been deployed by the criminals.

The incident reportedly occurred around 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, when armed men on motorcycles were sighted moving suspiciously near Maiganguma village in the two LGAs.

Security sources told Zagazola Makama that, at the same time, a drone was observed hovering over Dandume and Machika villages, particularly near the perimeters of Operation Sharan Daji Camp and the Machika Military Super Camp.

Troops in the area immediately contacted other security formations to verify the drone’s origin, but all units denied ownership or deployment of any aerial device in the vicinity.

Shortly after, the drone was seen flying behind Wori Rock before reappearing, prompting soldiers on patrol to open fire. The drone then retreated toward Wori Rock and eventually disappeared from sight.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle-riding suspects fled into the surrounding bush and managed to evade capture. No casualties were reported.

Military sources say investigations are underway to determine the source and intent of the drone, and to uncover any potential surveillance or targeting operations being planned by the suspected bandits.
