President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday night held a closed-door meeting with governors elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The high-level meeting, which began around 7 p.m. at the Presidential Banquet Hall in Aso Rock, comes just hours ahead of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for Thursday.
The governors were led by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who also chairs the Progressive Governors’ Forum.
Prior to the Villa meeting, the governors had met for several hours at the Imo State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, to align their positions.
Daily Trust reported that President Tinubu aimed to discuss and finalize key decisions before the NEC meeting.
One major issue reportedly on the table is whether the position of APC National Chairman should remain in the North Central zone—the region it traditionally occupied before the appointment of former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Leaders from the North Central have repeatedly raised concerns over marginalization and are demanding the return of the chairmanship slot to the region.
Among the governors spotted at the Villa were Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State.
The outcome of these strategic consultations is expected to shape the tone and direction of Thursday’s NEC gathering.
