The Expeditious Budget in History: A Viewpoint for The Citizens on The Jigawa 2025 Budget

The Jigawa appropriations budget for 2025 set numerous records.

With a 60% increase over the previous year, the budget that was signed on the last day of 2024, set a record for the highest budget provision in the state’s history.

Additionally, it broke the record for the quickest bill passed by the State Assembly.

We remember that on December 7, 2024, the budget was introduced to the State Assembly.

On December 30, 2024, it was approved and passed into law, and on December 31, 2024, His Excellency Malam Umar Namadi accented.

Another record is that the proposed budget was left unchanged by lawmakers.

The Assembly enacted the same amount of money, which the Governor had proposed of ₦698.3 billion for the state and ₦184.4 billion for the 27 local government areas.

All citizens should keep in mind that the budget is merely a proposal of the state’s revenue and expenses, in my opinion.

It is important to keep in mind, though, that this is a broad plan for the use of public funds. It is essential that citizens be involved in the implementation of this budget.

The effectiveness of a budget can only be determined by its implementation.

Only with citizen participation in the system can good governance be accomplished, particularly with regard to the use of public funds.

Despite Jigawa State’s participation in the Open Governance Partnership (OPG), strengthening the partnership from the vantage point of the citizens is crucial.

The budget, titled “The Budget of Innovation and Transformation for Greater Jigawa,” focuses on important areas like infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic empowerment. If properly implemented, it can achieve its goal.

There is hope that if this budget is implemented, the state will be able to implement its transformation plan in the areas of health and education and invest in the state’s agricultural transformation.

I applauded the lawmakers, the administration, and the people for this process and the budget’s quick passage.
