Musa Na Allah, Sokoto

To regulate mining activities and ensure compliance with enabling laws, the Sokoto State Government through the Ministry for Solid Minerals Development, has warned individuals, groups, and corporate bodies not to engage in illegal mining operations without proper documentation and authorization.

The Commissioner for Solid Minerals, Hon. Yusuf Muhammad Maccido, made the remarks while on an assessment visit to the Lambara town mining site in Shagari Local Government Area.

He said a mining company, Al-ikhlas Consult, was found to have commenced mining activities without obtaining clearance from the state government.

Hon. Maccido emphasized that no entity, individual, or group has the right to engage in mining of any sort without a valid license or explicit consent of the Ministry for Solid Minerals Development.

“The ministry is tasked with overseeing all mining operations in Sokoto State and will not tolerate any form of illegal mining.”

“We will continue to ensure due process is followed, “We are committed to reviving and improving mining activities in the state which must be done in accordance with the law,” Maccido stated.

He highlighted the state government’s efforts in boosting the mining sector and enhancing partnerships with organizations willing to carry out mining within the state legal framework.

The commissioner’s intervention was commended by the local government chairman of the area, Barrister Maidawa Kajiji, who disclosed that the company had been stopped from continuing operations until proper clearance was obtained.

Kajiji praised the commissioner for his swift action, which he said would help protect the community’s resources and ensure sustainable development.

Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Lawali Sada, and other ministry officials, Maccido’s visit underscores the state government’s commitment to enforcing regulations and promoting responsible mining practices.

The ministry has vowed to take appropriate steps against any individual or organization found violating the law.

This development signals a renewed focus by the Sokoto state government to harness its mineral potential while ensuring all activities are conducted transparently and in line with established guidelines.
