Musa Na Allah Sokoto
Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State on Tuesday disclosed that N998 million will be spent on this year’s Ramadan free feeding program for the faithful across the state, as muslims ummah prepare for Ramadan fasting this week.
While speaking during the inauguration of the Ramadan Feeding Committee, he noted that the number of feeding centers had been increased from 130 to 155, adding that more people would assess the support they needed.
He credited the program’s origin to his mentor, former Governor of the state Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, and emphasized its continued importance in supporting the vulnerable, poor, and physically challenged members of society.
He highlighted that the initiative would serve at least 20,000 people daily at each of the 155 centers, providing free meals throughout the 30-day fasting period. The program is also expected to create job opportunities, with 610 women and an additional 1,500 ad hoc staff employed.
In addition to the feeding program, Governor Aliyu shared details about other efforts to support the less privilege in the society saying that his administration has already distributed 990 bags of maize and N50,000 each to clerics in 90 Juma’at Mosques in Sokoto
He also directed financial assistance to key Islamic groups in the state, with plans to support over 3,000 Islamic scholars and leaders. The distribution includes N200,000 for 300 senior Islamic scholars, N100,000 for 100 Ulamas, and N50,000 for 2,900 Malaman Zaure across the state’s 23 local governments.
Governor Aliyu urged wealthy individuals to contribute by opening additional free feeding centers, encouraging them to seek divine rewards during this sacred period. He further called on the public to pray for an end to banditry, insecurity, and criminality, both in Sokoto State and across Nigeria.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar III, who was represented by Alhaji Buhari Na malam Boyi, the Sarkin Malamai of Sokoto, praised the state government for its ongoing commitment to the welfare of its people.
He urged the public to adhere to the true values of Islam, emphasizing upright conduct in all interactions.
Dr. Jabir Maihula, the State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, affirmed that the government is delivering good governance as promised in its campaign, ensuring the well-being of the people during and after the blessed month of Ramadan.
