Amid increasing economic challenges, the Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment to encourage investment and stimulate economic growth.
He made the remarks on Tuesday while commissioning several community development projects, including solar-powered boreholes, school uniforms, and cement donations, by BUA Cement PLC as part of its corporate social responsibility in Wamakko Local Government Area.
Represented by the state Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Aminu Dodo Iya, the Governor appreciated BUA Cement for its steadfast commitment to its usual corporate social responsibility (CSR) to host Communities.
“Your dedication to community development is not only commendable but also serves as a shining example for other corporate entities to follow.
“The BUA Cement Community Development Project illustrates the significant impact that collaboration between the private sector and the government can have on the common good.”
He emphasized that community development is the foundation of any thriving society. He pointed out that initiatives addressing critical needs such as infrastructure, education, and healthcare are essential for the socio-economic advancement of communities.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director of BUA Cement PLC, Engr. Yusuf Binji, revealed that the company invested ₦343 million in the newly commissioned projects.
He reaffirmed BUA Cement’s commitment to improving the lives of residents in its host communities.
The commissioned projects were seven solar-powered boreholes providing clean water to several communities, and 4,200 pairs of school uniforms distributed to pupils in five primary schools.
Other projects include the installation of 50 solar streetlights in Asare village, the provision of 25 electric poles and wiring support for Gidan Yaro, the renovation of five toilets at the Almajiri School in Kalambina, and a donation of 150 tonnes of cement to support infrastructure development in the communities.
Binji commended the Sokoto state government and the people of the host Communities for their continued support while assuring that BUA Cement would remain focused and committed to strengthening its partnership with the state.
“We sincerely appreciate the enormous and genuine support our host communities have provided us over the years. This relationship is mutually beneficial, and we remain dedicated to giving back to society,” he said.
The beneficiary communities with solar boreholes include Illela, Gidan Bazamfare, Gidan Maituta, Gidan Gamba, Gidan Baduwa, and the Almajiri School in Kalambina.
According to him, BUA Cement has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable development, reinforcing the crucial role of the private sector in driving social and economic progress in Sokoto State.
