The Managing Director (MD) of Sabon Gari, Singa, Galadima Markets Management Board, Abdul Bashir Hussaini, has inaugurated a 14-member Re-Numbering Market Stalls Committee.

The MD was represented by the Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Sabon Gari Market, Hon. Musbahu Abdullahi Shadow.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hon. Musbahu Shadow stated that the exercise became necessary due to the significant growth and expansion of commercial activities within Sabon Gari Market.

He explained that while government-owned shops in Janbulo already have identification numbers, many privately owned shops either lack numbering entirely or have outdated and missing numbers.

According to him, several structural changes have taken place over the years, including the construction of additional floors and the subdivision of single shops into multiple units, while some existing numbers have faded due to age and wear.

Hon. Shadow noted that the re-numbering exercise would provide a more accurate database of market stalls and improve government revenue generation mechanisms.

He further emphasized that the initiative would assist the government in planning, monitoring, and implementing commercial development projects within Sabon Gari Market.

He assured traders that the exercise would not negatively affect any individual or business and stressed that the Market Management Board would not collect any fees from traders for the exercise.

Hon. Shadow expressed appreciation to the business community for its continued support and cooperation with the market authorities in promoting development both within and outside the market.

He also thanked the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his support and commitment to the development of markets across the state.

Also speaking at the event, the Director Technical as Co-Chairman of the Committee, Malam Sani Shehu Ibrahim, outlined the committee’s operational strategy.

He explained that the committee would be divided into two teams, while the market would also be divided into two operational zones to facilitate efficient execution of the assignment.

Malam Sani Shehu expressed confidence that the exercise would be completed within three to four weeks.
