In preparation for the upcoming Eid-Fitr celebrations, the Commissioner of Police for Sokoto State, CP Ahmed Musa, has directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and other tactical commanders to adopt proactive measures to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration.

The Commissioner, in a statement made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Friday, emphasized the importance of effective intelligence gathering and raids on known black spots within the command’s areas of responsibility.

To enhance security during the festive period, CP Musa has approved the mobilization of operational assets, including the Anti-Riot Water Cannon, which will be on high alert.

Additionally, patrol vehicles will be deployed to key strategic locations to ensure visibility policing. The police will also conduct stop-and-search duties at all entry and exit points of the state, working in synergy with other security agencies.

He said the measures were part of a comprehensive strategy to maintain a safe and secure environment for worshippers before, during, and after the Eid festival.

He stressed the importance of ensuring that the celebration remains peaceful and that all security protocols are strictly followed.

“While encouraging vigilance, CP Musa also urged members of the public to remain law-abiding and tolerant toward one another, regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

He emphasized that such unity is essential for the peaceful conduct of the Eid celebrations.

The Commissioner further appealed to the public to be alert and aware of their surroundings, particularly when in crowded areas or near places of worship.

He called on citizens to keep an eye on their wards and report any suspicious activities immediately.

CP Musa urged residents to contact the police or any security outfit nearby. He also provided an emergency contact number, 08032345167 for the public to reach out to the police in case of an urgent need for assistance.

“The police have also increased their presence in areas known to experience high traffic during the festive period, including markets, shopping centers, and mosques. This is to ensure the safety of worshippers and prevent any potential security breaches.”

Furthermore, the Sokoto State Police Command has planned for additional security patrols in areas where large gatherings of people are expected to maintain public order and prevent any unforeseen incidents that may arise during the celebrations.

In line with these efforts, CP Musa assured residents that all security agencies in Sokoto are working together to ensure a smooth and peaceful Eid-Fitr celebration.

He also emphasized the importance of cooperation between the police and the public to achieve this goal.

He highlighted the role of community leaders and religious heads in promoting peace and cooperation during the festive period. He encouraged them to speak to their congregations about the importance of peace, lawfulness, and unity.

The CP urged stakeholders, including the media, to continue playing their part in promoting public awareness about safety measures, adding that public cooperation is key to making the Eid celebration a success for everyone in Sokoto State.

As the celebration approaches, the State Police Command remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.

CP Musa promised that no effort will be spared in safeguarding the public and maintaining peace and orderliness throughout the festive period.
