The Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has intensified enforcement of the ban on commercial motorcycle operations (Achaba/Okada) and the restriction of tricycles from operating between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. within the Kano metropolis.
The command disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, that between January 1 and 7 January 2026, a total of 104 commercial motorcycles and 68 tricycles were impounded for violating the directives.
During the operations, 172 suspects were arrested in connection with the offences and have since been charged in court for prosecution.
According to the statement, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the cooperation and understanding of residents of the state, while also praising the joint security teams involved in the exercise.
He specifically acknowledged the role of the Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and other security agencies for their commitment to enforcing the ban and restriction.
The police reiterated that the ban on the use of motorcycles for commercial passenger conveyance and the nighttime restriction on tricycles remain in force.
Members of the public were urged to comply fully with the regulations to avoid arrest and prosecution.
The affected local government areas include Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, Ungogo (Jido Area), and Dawakin Kudu, covering Tamburawa, Gurjiya, and Jido wards.
Residents were also encouraged to report violations or suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, and 09029292926.
The Kano State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property in the state, assuring the public that enforcement operations will continue to ensure strict compliance with the ban and restriction.
