The Kano State Police Command has distributed N34.3 million in insurance benefits to families and next-of-kin of police officers who died in the line of duty, as well as officers who sustained injuries in accidents while performing their lawful duties.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, presented the cheques on Thursday at the Command Headquarters Conference Hall, Bompai, Kano; the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed in a statement.
According to the statement, a total of 62 cheques, amounting to N34,309,073.70, were presented to 62 beneficiaries under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
The Command said the initiative formed part of the welfare packages of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, aimed at cushioning the hardship faced by families of deceased officers and personnel who suffered accidents in the course of duty.
Presenting the cheques on behalf of the IGP, CP Bakori said the gesture demonstrated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
He said the sacrifices of officers who died in the line of duty would not be forgotten, adding that the Force remained committed to supporting the families they left behind.
“The loss of these gallant officers is deeply painful, not only to their families but to the entire Force. While no amount of money can replace a life, this token is the Force’s way of showing that we stand with the families they left behind,” Bakori said.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds judiciously, particularly for the upkeep and education of the children and families of the deceased officers.
The Commissioner also assured that the Command would continue to prioritise the welfare of its personnel and ensure the prompt processing and delivery of entitlements due to deceased and injured officers.
He added that more welfare packages were in the pipeline for families of fallen police officers.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Malama Safiya Abdullahi Adamu thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner for the gesture.
She prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased officers and the speedy recovery of those who sustained injuries.
The event was attended by members of the Command Management Team, senior police officers and families of the deceased officers.
