Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has unveiled key achievements of his administration across security, infrastructure, the economy, and social services, affirming his commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and prosperous Plateau.

Speaking on Tuesday during an interactive session with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Plateau Publishers Association, Plateau Bloggers Association, and social media influencers at the Twin Theater, New Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Governor Mutfwang gave a detailed scorecard of his administration since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

Strengthening Security Architecture

The Governor identified security as the foundation of his development agenda. He highlighted early consultations with heads of security agencies and the revitalization of Operation Rainbow, Plateau’s indigenous security outfit.

The integration of local intelligence networks and enhanced logistics support, he said, has significantly reduced insecurity and restored confidence in many rural communities.

“Today, Plateau is safer than many other North-Central states,” he noted. “No local government is under the control of bandits. We remain vigilant and proactive.”

Economic Relief Through Mass Transit

Addressing the impact of fuel subsidy removal, Governor Mutfwang said his administration prioritized lasting economic relief over short-term palliatives by launching the Metro Bus Scheme.

The program, he said, saves commuters ₦40,000–₦50,000 monthly.

He also announced the successful resumption of train services through collaboration with the Nigerian Railway Corporation, expanding affordable transport options for citizens.

Boosting Air Connectivity and Agro-Exports

Governor Mutfwang reported that Plateau now enjoys increased air traffic, with three weekly flights to Abuja and seven to Lagos. He disclosed that the state has signed an MoU with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to upgrade Yakubu Gowon Airport into a Cargo International Airport to boost agro-exports and open access to global markets for Plateau produce.

Reviving Tourism and Hospitality

The Governor declared Jos open again for tourism and investment, citing improved security and rising hotel occupancy rates.

He listed high-profile events recently held in the state, including the NBA Legal Practice Conference and national constitutional review sessions, as evidence of Plateau’s growing appeal as a destination for conferences and leisure.

Infrastructure and Rural Development

On infrastructure, Governor Mutfwang said the administration has launched an inclusive road development program that cuts across all communities.

“Our roads pass through Christian, Muslim, and mixed neighborhoods,” he said. “We’re proving that development has no tribe or religion.”

In rural areas, he announced the successful recovery of land previously controlled by bandits in Wase.

“The Wase grazing reserve is now secure and open for agricultural investment. It’s a win for food security and rural economic revival,” he stated.

Prioritizing Workers’ Welfare

The Governor reaffirmed his commitment to prompt salary payments and improved civil service conditions. “Paying salaries is a duty, not a favour,” he said, adding that training and welfare packages for workers have been revived under his leadership.

Upgrading Healthcare Systems

In the health sector, Governor Mutfwang announced the completion of a modern diagnostic laboratory at the Plateau Specialist Hospital, alongside structural upgrades and departmental expansions to transition the hospital into a teaching facility.

He also highlighted reforms at PLASCHEMA and the state’s Drugs and Medical Commodities Agency, both of which are now better equipped to deliver quality healthcare and eliminate counterfeit drugs from circulation.

Restoring the Education Sector

On education, the Governor disclosed major turnarounds in tertiary institutions. Plateau Polytechnic, once struggling with low enrolment, now has over 6,000 students. The Plateau State University, Bokkos, has regained accreditation for several courses and is developing new faculties, including a Faculty of Medicine.

Partnership with the Media

Governor Mutfwang praised the role of journalists and content creators in spotlighting government efforts, describing them as indispensable partners in Plateau’s development.

“We’re not saying we’ve arrived,” he said, “but we are certainly on the move. Plateau is rising.”

He concluded by assuring citizens of his continued dedication to transforming Plateau into an economically vibrant, socially cohesive, and globally competitive state. “I’m in politics to build a better future for Plateau,” he said.
